From April 21st – 23rd, BCAP’s Bilingual Prevention/PrEP Services Coordinator (now Bilingual Prevention Manager), Karla Giovannini, and BCAP’s Bilingual Prevention/Harm Reduction Services Coordinator, Daniel Quezada, attended the NaLa 2026 Conference in Dallas, Texas, put on by the Valley AIDS Council.
The NaLa Conference aims to provide Healthcare and Social Service Providers with innovative concepts, best practices, and new information on how to better serve Latino communities to improve patient health outcomes.
NaLa 2026 brought together physicians, nurses, case managers, social workers, community health workers, support staff, linkage-to-care specialists, and administrative staff with the goal of working toward four core conference learning objectives including:
* To increase knowledge, communication, and respectful attitudes regarding HIV, HCV, and substance use disorders (SUD) among Latino communities
* To discuss the cultural and social barriers faced by Latino individuals in seeking/receiving treatment, care, and prevention for HIV, HCV, and SUD
* To recognize the impact of HIV, HCV, and SUD among Latino communities when compared to other national populations
* To identify culturally tailored medical practices and interventions to Latino patients and populations to provide better health
BCAP's Prevention staff are grateful to have attended this conference, and are hard at work utilizing some of their newly acquired information and skills.
