Executive Director Ana Hopperstad to Retire from BCAP

April 2008 seems like only yesterday when I was named Executive Director of the Boulder County AIDS Project (BCAP). Since that time we have experienced recession, the losses of too many loved ones and too many successes to name!

Now the time has come for my retirement. My last day as BCAP’s Executive Director is Friday, August 31, 2018.

I feel incredibly blessed to have been involved with HIV work for over twenty years. Since becoming a BCAP volunteer in 1991 and working for the Colorado AIDS Project, Northwest AIDS Foundation, Lifelong AIDS Alliance and, beginning in 2006, the Boulder County AIDS Project, I’ve received far more from my career and the people I’ve met than I’ve had to offer.

The last twelve years at BCAP have been the highlight of my long career and have provided me with incredible personal and professional growth. I am grateful to all who helped me to develop my leadership skills, endure the ups and downs of nonprofit management, and in partnership with BCAP’s board, determine BCAP’s future. Together, we’ve weathered the challenges of a turbulently changeable political, social and financial environment.

Each of you has been my teacher along the path. Thank you for your support and for making this work rich and rewarding.

BCAP provides critical services toward the goal of ending the transmission of HIV. The need for BCAP in the community remains relevant. BCAP’s staff are incredibly gifted and dedicated and make a difference in people’s lives each and every day. These services will continue long after I am gone. I leave BCAP as a strong organization prepared to meet the future challenges of HIV, HCV and the opiate epidemic in the Front Range region of CO. I’m confident BCAP’s stellar work will continue into the future under new leadership.

BCAP’s Board of Directors will conduct an active search for a new Executive Director beginning immediately. BCAP’s future looks bright. I thank everyone involved in BCAP’s mission for your dedication and support.

What is ahead for me? I look forward to focusing on my physical, spiritual and mental health, exploring hot springs, gardening, painting, and visiting friends and family. Beyond that, the rest is a mystery to be embraced.

With my respect, gratitude and thanks,

Ana Hopperstad Executive Director
