The Hispanos Para La Salud program provides HIV outreach, education and prevention to Latino youth and Latina women. Latino youth and Latina women are at increased risk for HIV transmission due to a myriad of behaviors which include unprotected sex (without condoms), domestic violence, substance abuse, and gender inequality that can promote submission and domestic abuse among Latina women. This BCAP program is offered at the Longmont BCAP office located at the Powell Building in northeastern Longmont. This office serves a largely Latino-identified community.
The Hispanos program is a community-based program which seeks to promote increased understanding among Latino/a youth and Latina women about the relationship between decision-making which effects behavior and the resultant levels of risk for contracting HIV. The program is based on a model of self-empowerment and education with the hope that new behaviors will become internalized into an individual’s self-concept to promote an overall healthier lifestyle.
