Give Time

Make a Difference…..Volunteer!

The Boulder County AIDS Project (BCAP) relies on volunteer support to provide services for our community. Volunteers donate their time and talents to HIV Care Services, HIV Prevention Services, Resource Development and/or Operations. BCAP currently receives support from more than 200 active volunteers and more than 200 short-term volunteers per year. Read on to learn more about BCAP and volunteering. In 2009, BCAP volunteers donated 17,452 hours of their time to BCAP! These hours are valued at $467,783. There truly is no way that BCAP could provide the services and programs it does without our volunteers.

BCAP's Mission

The mission of the Boulder County AIDS Project is twofold: to provide support, advocacy and education to those in our community who are infected with or affected by HIV and to serve as an outreach and information center to prevent further transmission of HIV/AIDS.

Philosophy of Volunteerism

Our philosophy of volunteerism is best explained by a quote from My Grandfather’s Blessings by Rachel Naomi Ramen, “We do not serve the weak or the broken. What we serve is the wholeness in each other and the wholeness in life. The part in you that I serve is the same part that is strengthened in me…. Unlike helping or fixing or rescuing, service is mutual.” BCAP believes that our role is not to rescue people but to offer support for everyone in our community to live healthy, productive, positive lives. Therefore, all of our care and prevention services are based on mutual respect and participation.

Many volunteers find that they gain much more than they give when volunteering at BCAP. While this organization has grown incredibly over the years, we’ve maintained a strong sense of family. This is a place to learn, a place to grow and change and a place where everyone is accepted.

Who Can Volunteer with BCAP?

Everyone is encouraged to apply to become a volunteer. BCAP volunteers coordinate and deliver many of the services the agency provides to the community. We rely on and treat volunteers as unpaid staff members. Therefore, it is critical for us to take the time to make quality matches between volunteers and programs and to provide sufficient training. We accept the volunteers that we feel will best assist us in offering excellent services to our clients and then equip them with the skills and knowledge to do so.

BCAP is committed to recruiting a diverse pool of volunteers to serve our diverse clientele. We are open to and affirming of people of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, faiths, ethnicities, races, abilities and nations of origin.

How To Become a Volunteer: It's as easy as 1.... 2.... 3....

  1. Read through this page and then fill out the volunteer application.
  2. BCAP's Volunteer Coordinator will review your application and confirm with you that it has been received. If we feel that you make a good potential match for the BCAP Volunteer Program we will call your references and then call you to set up a brief telephone interview. During the interview, we’ll discuss what it’s like to volunteer at BCAP; your skills, interests and availability; and decide if and how we can make a good match between you and our programs. Everyone who sends in an application will receive confirmation.
  3. In order to participate in many of our volunteer positions, you will be required to attend the 20 hour BCAP Volunteer Training which is offered in the Spring and Fall. Whenever possible, we try to get you started with special events and other opportunities that do not require the training.

Volunteer training dates are not posted on our web site. In order to be invited to attend, you must first complete an application.

Community outreach and education/prevention programs are a fundamental service of BCAP. Presentations and printed materials are also available in Spanish.

- Resource Development
In order to provide these services, BCAP must develop strong financial and human resources. This program applies for local, state, federal and private grants; requests donations from both individuals and businesses; holds numerous special events and last, but not least, recruits and manages volunteers like you.
